NBL2/3 recap (1/2 March) - recaps and scores

Bristol Academy Flyers II have regained control of the NBL2 North standings in a week where everything went their way.

Meanwhile in WNBL2, the race for the post-season continues with a look at the results below.

NBL2 North

Bristol Academy Flyers II (17-2) took a giant step towards the NBL2 North title as they beat St Helens Saints (14-4) 86-78 on Sunday.

Corey Hill stepped up in a big-game situation as his 31 points secured the win against a Saints side whose own title aspirations took a major tumble.

The next meeting between the two in the South West on 22 March could see Bristol securing the league crown with a victory, though that could happen sooner if St Helens can't beat Myerscough and Worcester Wolves in their next two games.

The Flyers’ weekend only got better as second place Leicester Warriors (16-5) lost out on their home floor 87-84 to the Worcester Wolves (7-12) in catastrophic circumstances.

Leading 54-37 at the half, Leicester looked comfortable and on course for a victory when a 50-30 turnaround spun the game in the Wolves' favour as the Warriors dropped to their second consecutive loss.

Daijuan Antonio paced Worcester with 18 points and six rebounds in the upset win.

Elsewhere, Myerscough Basketball Academy (10-8) scored a strong 89-68 win over Encon Derbyshire Arrows (15-6) thanks to a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double from Junior Sanchez.

The duo of Ronney Ani and Luca Lara Sanchez helped Manchester Magic (13-7) put Liverpool (3-17), to the sword, they both scored 14 points and both shot 55% from the floor to guide the Magic to a 68-56 success.

And at the bottom, Teesside Lions (5-12) continued their quest for safety with a comfortable 91-74 win over basement side Cardiff City (2-15), while the Cardiff Met Archers (9-11) downed Bristol Basketball United (BBU) (4-16) 78-60.

NBL2 South

There were just four games in the South with Team Solent Kestrels staying in touch with London Stars at the top of the table. The Kestrels claimed an 89-53 win over Cobham Scorchers (6-15).

Russell Gariepy and Greg Durand both hit 19 points for Solent, who improve to 16-2, having played two games less than the league leading Stars, but one more than third placed Barking Abbey.

Barnet Bulldogs (9-10) used a strong second half to beat Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (2-18) 88-80. Brandynn Manning led the Bulldogs with 25 points, Charlie Smythe led all scorers with 26 for Ipswich, who are now confirmed to finishing in the bottom two.

NASSA (14-6) bagged a 79-67 success over Essex Rebels II (3-15) to strengthen their hold on the playoff spots, and London Elite (12-9) won their penultimate game of the season, seeing off Westminster Warriors (4-17) 85-61 to increase the Warriors' relegation worries.

WNBL2

Milton Keynes Breakers are now clear at the top of WNBL2’s Pool I after they saw-off the Cardiff Met Archers II 74-56. Sarah Round paced MK with 18 as they move to 12-1.

City of Birmingham Rockets (7-4) remain in third place as they beat Charnwood Riders (6-8) 74-61, and Nottingham University Wildcats (5-7) triumphed 79-50 over Liverpool (1-11).

In Pool II, London All Stars (15-0) were dominant over London Thunder (1-15) as Benahili Ozzy-Momodu’s 20 points lifted them to an 80-41 rout, while Team Solent Kestrels (9-7) blitzed Stevenage Royals Women (1-14) 60-36 with Earleesha Jackson posting 12 points in a well balanced scoring effort.
