Ferran Pizcueta, an elite skills coach with Valencia Basket and former Spanish national team coach, presented two practical sessions and two lectures on alternative ways of developing individual skills and team concepts.
The delegation of coaches were given a unique insight into practical applications based on the increasingly popular 'Constraint Based Method' of coaching.
During the practical session Pizcueta used U16 players from Northants for the demos and was supported by Sueca's Strength and Conditioning Coach Nacho Palermo and sports psychologist Liam McGirk, who acted as an interpreter.
“Ferran’s presentations certainly challenged some of the coaching methods we have traditionally used. I know the coaches have been inspired to go away and think about the way they will work with individual players and the teams they coach.”
At an informal dinner was held after the second coaching clinic and the Spanish delegation were presented with mementos from Basketball England.
"We are always appreciative of clubs who support their coaches' learning and development, and in turn raising standards. Initiatives like this are a great way to reward and support volunteer coaches in their own environments.
"I am pleased we were able to provide coaches in attendance with a coaching pad and contributed to the costs of hosting the Spanish delegation, providing them with mementos of appreciation of their commitment to supporting one of our longstanding basketball clubs."
