WNBL1 preview: 1/2 February 2025 - live streams, stats and more

It's an action-packed weekend in D1W.

All 12 of the league's teams are playing on Saturday before Brent and Loughborough double up on Sunday.

We take a look at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Bristol Academy Flyers (7-7) vs Cobham Cobras (6-8)

Two teams battling it out for playoff position square off on Saturday as Cobham Cobras travel to Bristol Academy Flyers.

Consistently inconsistent, Bristol are a team still looking to find their stride in 2025. 2-2 in their last four and alternating wins and losses, if that pattern continues the Flyers should be looking at a home win this weekend.

It does mean that this Bristol side are somewhat of a wildcard, with a win against 10-2 CoLA this season but also a loss against 4-8 Worcester, to go with their spotty recent form.

The Flyers also lost when these teams last met in late October, going down 65-55 after a 23-14 second quarter put the visitors in a hole they'd never climb out of.

Marlee Ball (15.9PPG, 12.1RPG) leads both the team's scoring charts and efficiency rankings. The former WBBLer is integral to everything the Flyers do and is sure to have a big impact on Saturday's clash.

That said, she does need support. In the previous loss to Cobham, only Ball and Mara Marchizotti made it to double-digit scoring, so the likes of Leila Jepson, Hannah Wallace and Kim Kheing will no doubt be itching for another shot at the Cobras.

Adjusting well to life in the top flight, Cobham have plenty to be pleased with and being in the mix for the post-season is a just reward for their efforts to date.

Winners of two of their three games in 2025, the Surrey outfit continue to lean on Katie Richards (11.7PPG), Sophie Khlaf (9.3PPG) and Francesca Quinn (8.7PPG).

Owning D1W's second-lowest scoring offence (59.3PPG) hasn't stunted the Cobras too much, especially since they only give up 61.5PPG in reply, good for fourth in the league as things stand.

Elsewhere this weekend

Five other games fill up Saturday, starting with top-four chasing Loughborough Riders (7-4) taking on Worcester Wolves (4-8), who are trying to get back in touch with the playoff places.

Manchester Mystics (7-7) and Anglia Ruskin University (8-6) look strong shouts for the playoffs themselves, but both sides have generally come up short against the league's leading lights this season. The duo go head-to-head this weekend in Cambridge for what would be a valuable two points.

London Cavaliers (6-6) are currently on the outside of the playoff picture looking in but a seventh win of the year may prove to be elusive as they take on title-chasing CoLA Southwark Pride (10-2).

Both of the bottom two have difficult match ups this weekend as their struggles continue to grow.

Barking Abbey (1-11) face a cross-town visit from third place Brent Bulls (9-2), and Reading Rockets (1-12) have the daunting task of heading to Suffolk to take on Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (10-3) and D1W's leading scorer Harriet Welham (24.1PPG).

That just leaves a single game for Sunday as Brent and Loughborough double-up, with the game taking place at The University of Westminster.

Winning both their games over the coming days could see Brent as D1W co-leaders by the time the weekend is done, providing plenty of motivation for both of their match ups.
