WNBL1 preview: 1/2 March 2025 - live streams, stats and more

March is here, meaning the end of the D1W regular season is also in sight.

Six games mark the flipping of the calendar, with five on Saturday and Brent vs Cobham on Sunday.

Fellow high-flyers Ipswich and CoLA are also at home, with the trio all hoping to pick up a valuable win in the race for top spot.

There's also a huge battle at the foot of the table as bottom two Reading and Barking go head-to-head.

We take a look at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Reading Rockets (2-15) vs Barking Abbey (3-13)

D1W's bottom two face off on Saturday as Barking Abbey take a trip to Reading Rockets.

Neither side is certain to confirm relegation based off tomorrow's result, but given the limited time remaining in the season, a loss for either side will likely be terminal.

The winner will likely still need to claim the majority, if not all, of their games between now and the finish line to stage an escape, but Saturday's clash represents a start, and a chance to build momentum.

Momentum is something that Barking have on their side right now, winning two of their last three outings. A heart-breaking 66-64 defeat to Loughborough robbed BA from claiming three in a row and may yet serve as a big 'what if' moment on their season.

Reading certainly know a thing or two about the fine margins in play this season as well.

All three of the Rockets' games in January were decided by four points or less, and with the trio all resulting in losses, their season could look drastically different had those fixtures swung another way.

One of Reading's two wins for the campaign came against Barking, a 69-59 victory in November, providing confidence that a double-up could be on the cards this weekend to begin their great escape.

Alicia Guerra Rainford scored 26 points that day, and her 18.4PPG remains a team-high ahead of Kristina Karpova (11.9PPG).

Nicole Clancy (11.1PPG) has collecting 58 points across BA's last three games, significantly above her season average, and is a player in form. Her output alongside top scorer Megan Verbeeten (15.3PPG) is sure to be key to Abbey's prospects in this one.

Elsewhere this weekend

Second-place CoLA Southwark Pride (13-3) start the weekend by trying to keep the heat on leaders Ipswich, knowing that with both sides sitting on three losses, and owning the head-to-head between the teams, winning out from will favour the Londoners.

With six games still to go, including tomorrow's clash with Bristol Academy Flyers (9-8), that won't be easy, especially with a still TBC game with Brent to settle before season's end.

With the chasing pack still snapping at their heels, that means Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (14-3) can't afford to slow up now.

Worcester Wolves (6-10) will be hoping to throw a spanner in the works against the current leaders, further advancing their own claims for a playoff spot in the process.

Tia Freeman (19.3PPG) and Izabelle Booth (17.7PPG) both sit in D1W's top 10 scorers right now, and Anglia Ruskin University (11-7) will be banking on their continued production as they try to see off London Cavaliers (6-9).

That just leaves Manchester Mystics (9-9) against Loughborough Riders (9-7) to complete the Saturday line-up.

American Melissa Leet continues to play at a high level in her maiden D1W campaign, earning a spot in the most recent FocusHoops Team of the Week despite Loughborough's loss to ARU.

Manchester will need to find a way to slow her down if they're going to get anything from the contest, though that's easier said than done.

Sunday's only game sees Cobham Cobras (6-12) heading to Brent Bulls (12-4).

With just four games to go, Cobham's ability to seal the eighth and final playoff spot is a tough one, but as a newly promoted team, staying above D1W's trap door is still very much a success.

Brent have far loftier ambitions, given their proximity to top spot, but last weekend's defeat by Ipswich means the Bulls can't afford any further slip ups the rest of the way.
