WNBL1 preview: 22/23 February 2025 - live streams, stats and more

The big hitters keep on coming, with more exciting D1W action on tap.

A week after Ipswich beat CoLA and Brent lost in Manchester, the Suffolk side and the Bulls go head-to-head this week in another contest with big title implications.

Reading and Barking both have winnable games in their battle at the other end of the standings.

We take a look at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Brent Bulls (12-3) vs Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (13-3)

The D1W title race heads to North West London tomorrow as Ipswich travel to take on Brent Bulls.

The big winners of a week ago, Coach Drane's side saw off CoLA Southwark Pride 75-63 as Brent slipped up on the road in Manchester, giving the Suffolk side a two point cushion at the top of the table.

In truth, the race for top spot couldn't be closer as all three challengers have lost three games as things stand, with differing numbers of games played.

Someone will be suffering a fourth defeat before the weekend is over though, with CoLA in line to potentially cash in if they can overcome Worcester.

Ipswich struck a crucial blow over this weekend's opponents when they beat them 81-53 in last month's WNBL National Cup Final in Manchester.

Few would argue that Brent weren't at their best that day, but Ipswich could only beat what was in front of them and no doubt will have plenty of confidence about doing a repeat on Sunday.

The Bulls will be sweating on the fitness of multiple-week absentee Judit Fritz, with the standout guard unable to suit up since the OT win against Loughborough to start the month.

That left American Lindsey Cleary to carry the load last weekend, earning a spot in the FocusHoops Team of the Week in the process, even if the final result didn't go to plan.

Ipswich have their own injury question marks, with reigning MVP Harriet Welham playing hurt, though she has been able to log minutes recently even if it was in a limited capacity.

That led to guards Maisie Keyes (15pts, 6ast, 5reb) and Maddy Wormald (24pts, 10reb) both stepping up their game against CoLA, and both will look to keep that momentum going.

Elsewhere this weekend

That leaves five other games on the slate, starting with Cobham Cobras (6-11) against Manchester Mystics (8-9).

Manchester's victory against Brent will have given the Mystics plenty of confidence that they can make a late push for the top four, while Cobham are looking to sneak into the eighth and final playoff spot.

One of the teams in that battle for the last spot in the post-season is London Cavaliers (6-8). Playing without standout guard Kat Goldsby in recent weeks, the Cavs are expecting the American back in the near future as they try to keep their season on course. A trip to Barking Abbey (2-13) is next up for the Cavs, and BA can still avoid the drop despite time beginning to run out.

Worcester Wolves (6-9), like Cobham, are just a few positive results away from confirming their D1W safety, a great achievement in their maiden season at this level.

They also have playoff aspirations to focus on, but it'll take some effort to knock off title-chasing CoLA Southwark Pride (12-3).

That just leaves Reading Rockets' (2-14) trip to Bristol Academy Flyers (8-8) as Saturday's only other game.

The Rockets beat Worcester last weekend in a victory that head coach Joan Portero Luque said reflected the hard work being put in by his side

Like Barking, Reading's chances of avoiding D1W's trap door are getting narrower by the week, but all they can do is keep trying to pick up positive results.

It'll be up to Bristol to try and slow down reigning FocusHoops' Player of the Week Kristina Karpova, but Marlee Ball and Co. will be confident of doing the double against a side they beat 89-64 back in November.

Brent Ipswich is one of the two Sunday games, leaving Loughborough Riders (9-6) against Anglia Ruskin University (10-7) as the only other game to discuss.

Just two points separate the sides heading into the weekend, and with head-to-head tiebreakers also on the line, this one could be a dress rehearsal for a possible first round playoff games next month.
