WNBL1 preview: 5/6 April 2025 - live streams, stats and more

The playoffs are here, with four exciting opening-round games to look forward to.

Eight teams are now just three wins away from claiming this season's playoff title, but it won't be easy as D1W boasts one of it's strongest fields in quite some time.

We take a look at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

#1 CoLA Southwark Pride vs #8 Worcester Wolves

Regular-season champs CoLA Southwark Pride head into the playoffs with a home tie against #8 seeds Worcester Wolves.

CoLA have had the Wolves' number in both their meetings this season, winning 51-44 in London last November and 54-43 following February's tilt in the West Midlands.

Carolina Marques (19.2PPG) finished the regular season fifth in D1W's scoring charts, and between her and multiple Player of the Week winner Nina Wallace, the Wolves do have the firepower to cause an upset.

CoLA are top dogs heading into the playoffs for a reason though, including the league's best defence at just 56.4PPG allowed. They know how to limit the impact of players like Wallace and Marques, and still get the job done at the other end.

Chandera Jones Aryeh (5.1APG, first overall) and Ayla Habbal (4.1APG, fourth overall) both rank in the league's top five for assists, and you can bet both with have their side's offence ticking this weekend.

#2 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball vs #7 Loughborough Riders

Endeavour Ipswich Basketball may have been denied a repeat regular-season crown after taking top spot in 2023/24, but they head into the playoffs looking for ultimate glory for the first time since 2020/21.

With the league's top scorer Harriet Welham (23.0PPG) in tow, the Suffolk side start their playoff journey against a Loughborough side they're playing for the third time in succession.

Due to a scheduling quirk, Ipswich hosted the Riders on 16 March, winning 97-73 thanks to Welham's 41-point outburst, before the two sides went head-to-head once again in the Midlands on 22 March.

Ipswich came through that one as 68-58 victors, but after winning one clash from tip to buzzer and the other for three of four quarters, there's not too much to suggest the Riders anything but under dogs for this third instalment.

#3 Brent Bulls vs #6 Manchester Mystics

Brent enter the playoff as #3 seeds but need to pick themselves up after failing to capitalise on their last day showdown with eventual regular-season champs CoLA.

The Bulls visited their cross-town rivals on the final day of the regular season, knowing a win by 10 points or more would see them crowned as league winners for the first time.

That result didn't come to pass, with CoLA winning 62-59, despite a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double from one of the league's most in-form players, Lindsey Cleary.

In the absence of fellow standout Judit Fritz, Cleary has been on a tear for the Bulls, dragging them up the standings and making them a tough team to beat.

Both these teams claimed their home game in the season series, though with this game taking place in Brent, that makes the #3 seeds the favourites for this one.

#4 Anglia Ruskin University vs #5 Bristol Academy Flyers

The weekend begins with the always hotly-anticipated #4 vs #5 tie as Bristol Academy Flyers take a trip to Cambridge to face Anglia Ruskin University.

Locking up a top-four spot for the first time since 2019/20, six of ARU's losses this season came against the leading trio of CoLA, Ipswich and Brent. Going 13-3 against the rest of D1W, that includes 68-60 win when the sides met at ARU in January, plus a 20-0 forfeit win to Flyers on the opening day of the 2024/25 season.

Tia Freeman (19.8PPG) and Izabelle Booth (16.8PPG, 10.4RPG) have formed an effective partnership in their debut seasons with Ruskin, and both will surely hope to carry ARU deep into the playoffs.

Struggles against the top sides isn't something that has affected Bristol to the same extent, with the Flyers knocking off Ipswich 79-67 in mid-March to all but end the defending champs' regular season title defence.

That victory plus two since means the Flyers also enter the post-season with momentum on their side, making this a #4 vs #5 contest that could go either way.
