WNBL1 recap: 15/16 March 2025 - live streams, stats and more

The top of the D1W standings took another big shift this weekend.

A pair of wins for CoLA plus another victory for Brent came against the back drop of Ipswich's loss in Bristol, providing a sizable bump in the road for the Suffolk side's title hopes.

We take a look back at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

CoLA Southwark Pride (17-3) 75-68 Anglia Ruskin University (13-8)

CoLA picked up a hard-fought 75-68 win against Anglia Ruskin University to kick-start what would eventually become a two-win weekend.

If CoLA can win their last two games, they'll secure the D1W regular-season title for the first time since 2021/22, and that goal moved even closer to becoming a reality across a successful two days.

A 27-19 third quarter provided Pride with a small amount of breathing room in an otherwise even contest, though the double-digit advantage wouldn't last long as the fourth quarter rumbled on.

Three points is as close as ARU would get down the stretch, with the key basket needed to draw level proving elusive as they completed an unwanted 0-6 run against this season's top three sides.

Ayla Habbal (19pts, 6reb, 6ast) continued her strong campaign to push CoLA forward, with the more veteran presence of Chandera Jones-Aryeh (16pts, 11reb, 5ast, 7stl) also producing another strong outing across the stat sheet.

ARU standout Izabelle Booth (12pts, 8reb, 8TOs) was largely kept in check by the hosts, with Ilaria Zaffaroni (17pts) and Vicky Gray (15pts) instead leading the charge, though Gray was also limited to shooting 29% from the floor.

All eyes now turn to CoLA's final two games, at home to Manchester and then Brent, with the final-day clash against the Bulls setting up to be a potential title decider.

Elsewhere this weekend

Endeavour Ipswich Basketball's (17-4) regular-season title defence is all but over after they fell to a 79-67 defeat against Bristol Academy Flyers (10-10).

Twenty three points from Leila Jepson and 18 more from Kim Kheing would down the Suffolk side, with the duo combining for nine triples to cancel out a 28-point, 13-rebound double-double from Maddy Wormald.

Loughborough Riders (10-9) got the weekend off to a flyer with a 71-59 victory against Cobham Cobras (6-15).

Riders' forward Melissa Leet (20pts, 12reb, 7blk) produced a huge 42 efficiency outing against the Cobras, who will be relieved to be nearly confirmed as safe from relegation despite the result.

That's because Worcester Wolves (9-11) did Cobham a huge favour by claiming both legs of their double-header against Barking Abbey (4-16), who are now on the brink of being confirmed for a bottom two finish.

Carolina Marques proved to be BA's downfall in both games, producing an 18-point, seven-assist outing in Saturday's 73-54 road victory before a 26-point effort in Sunday's 55-46 home leg.

Barking now need to win both of their remaining games against Bristol and Brent, and hope Cobham lose their last game against London, to escape the bottom two.

Manchester Mystics (12-9) continued their late push for the top four with a 73-47 victory against Reading Rockets (2-19).

Eighteen points from Elizandra Costa and 15 more from Irene Oboavwoduo got Manchester over the line despite the Rockets taking the opening frame 18-13, with Reading's Alicia Guerra Rainford (23pts, 8reb) leading all scorers in defeat.

CoLA had no problem dispatching Reading on Sunday as well, with Ayla Habbal (14pts, 7reb, 5ast) on form once again in the 72-50 victory.

Ipswich got themselves back on track with a 97-73 win against Loughborough, as Harriet Welham went off for a monster 41-point performance in the victory.

Brent Bulls (14-4) picked up a key win in their only game of the weekend, beating London Cavaliers (6-12) 64-47.

Lindsey Cleary (23pts, 14reb) was once again the standout for the Bulls, who are still on course to claim the regular season title if they can win their next three games against Reading, Barking Abbey and Loughborough, plus beat CoLA on the final day of the season by six points or more.
