WNBL1 recap: 22/23 February 2025 - live streams, stats and more

After back-to-back top-of-the-table clashes, the D1W table is beginning to take shape.

Ipswich claimed another win, following up their success against CoLA with a victory over Brent, to move themselves just ahead of the chasing pack.

There were also wins for Manchester, Barking, CoLA, Bristol and Anglia Ruskin across a great weekend of action.

We take a look back at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Brent Bulls (12-4) 57-61 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (14-3)

Ipswich struck another big blow in their bid to retain the D1W regular-season title with a 61-57 win against Brent Bulls.

Playing without import star Maddy Wormald, Ipswich started slowly as the Bulls looked to avenge last month's WNBL National Cup Final defeat.

A slender 17-14 lead for the hosts after one became an even tighter 35-34 ball game by the half, but after the break Ipswich would produce the burst needed to set up the game.

Taking the third quarter 17-6, the Suffolk side built the cushion needed to fend off the Bulls, though that could have been different had a late three pointer from Ellie Bishop found its mark.

Sixteen points each from Harriet Welham and Cerys Leach proved to be big contributions for the visitors, who now lead D1W by two points ahead of CoLA Southwark Pride. Maisie Keyes finished with 12 points as Louisa Gibbons (9pts, 14reb) came close to a double-double.

Playing once again without influential guard Judit Fritz, Brent were led by 14 points from Lindsey Cleary and 11 more from Imogen Youd as the only two players in double digits.

Both teams are back in action next weekend, with Ipswich hosting Worcester and Brent at home to Cobham Cobras.

Elsewhere this weekend

Manchester Mystics (9-9) boosted their playoff hopes with a 68-61 victory against Cobham Cobras (6-12).

Cobham had led by as many as 13 points in the first half before sliding to the loss, with Rehana Khalil (14pts) leading all scorers for Manchester in the come back.

Barking Abbey (3-13) kept their D1W survival hopes going for another week as they beat London Cavaliers (6-9) 70-67.

Megan Verbeeten's 26 points were the big contribution for BA, helping to keep the Cavs' fourth-quarter comeback from coming to fruition.

Reading Rockets (2-15) couldn't match BA as they fell to a 69-45 defeat against Bristol Academy Flyers (9-8).

Marlee Ball (17pts, 10reb, 7ast) neared triple-double territory for the Flyers as they cemented their playoff position, pushing Reading even closer to the D1W trap door in the process.

Worcester Wolves (6-10) played hard against title-chasing CoLA Southwark Pride (13-3), but couldn't get the win as they dipped out 54-43.

CoLA controlled the contest for long stretches, though the Wolves refused to go quietly as tied up the game in the third quarter. Pride's Adaora Dioramma's (18pts, 17reb) produced a big double-double in the low-scoring contest, confirming an important result given Ipswich's success over Brent.

Twelve points from Izabelle Booth and Ilaria Zaffaroni helped Anglia Ruskin University (11-7) to a 58-47 victory over Loughborough Riders (9-7) in the weekend's only other game.

The duo helped cancel out a 16-point, 12-rebound effort from Loughborough's Melissa Leet, and further established ARU as a top four side in the process.
