WNBL Division One Preview - Week 4 (19/20 October 2019)

For the 2nd week in a row, WNBL Division One fans can enjoy a 1st v 2nd showdown. Last weekend saw Anglia Ruskin University knock off Ipswich 96 - 81, and the Rhinos put their unbeaten record on the line again this weekend in a tough match up. Let's take a look at that game and the rest of what's in store during week 4.

Game of the Week

Team Solent Kestrels (2-0) v Anglia Ruskin University (3-0)

It's a battle of the unbeatens on the South coast tomorrow as Team Solent entertain Anglia Ruskin.

Team Solent have started their season in fine form, grabbing a pair of road wins against Reading and Southwark. Their reward is to head home and face the defending playoff champions in Anglia Ruskin, who are yet to taste defeat this year. Andrea Kurkowsaki top scored for the Kestrels in their last outing with 17 points whilst Kristina Velkey and Earleesha Jackson have both contributed well on offence.

ARU's season has also started positively, beating Thames Valley twice before last week's win over Ipswich. The Rhinos' have so far contributed two of this season's three WNBL Division One Player of the Week winners in the shape of Katrin Hulme and Madeline Homoly. Expect both players to play a big role tomorrow.

Elsewhere in D1W

Despite losing their own unbeaten record last week, Ipswich (2-1) will look to bounce back on their travels against Thames Valley Cavaliers (1-2). There will also be one less winless team in D1W after this weekend as well as Nottingham Trent University (0-1) host Southwark Pride (0-2) in the Midlands tomorrow.

Likewise, Barking Abbey Lions II (0-2) host Loughborough Riders II (0-1) on Saturday afternoon with both sides looking to kick start their campaign. Loughborough lost the 1st quarter of last week's game 14 - 3 so will no doubt be concentrating on starting a little brighter tomorrow.

In Sunday's only fixture, Bristol Academy Flyers (1-1) take on a visiting Reading Rockets (2-1) team that have already won both their away games so far this season. Look for Reading's Sitota Gines Espinosa to feature heavily, she's been in solid form to start the year including 23 points against Solent last weekend.
