WNBL Division One recap - Week 8 (16/17 November 2019)

With a thriller in Loughborough, another win for leaders Anglia Ruskin and a first victory of the season for NTU, there's been plenty to enjoy in D1W for week 8!

Game of the Week

Nottingham Trent University 78-67 Thames Valley Cavaliers

After knocking on the door for their victory of the season for a number of weeks, Nottingham Trent finally got off the mark for 2019/20 with a 78-67 win over Thames Valley this weekend.

In what was a great team effort, NTU saw four different players all contribute as Vicky Gray (18 points) top scored and Diana Filipa Da Silva Ferreira (15 points), Brahe Ashton (14 points) and Arielle Jackson (14 points) all played well.  Diana Voynova top scored for the Cavs with 12.

Elsewhere in D1W

There was drama in Loughborough as the Riders held on for a win over Southwark by the narrowest of margins, taking the game 60-59. After Southwark's Aaliyah Samuels-Campbell sank two free throws to get her side to within a point with 12 seconds remaining, the visitors would manage to get the ball again in the closing seconds, setting up a thrilling finish. Samuels-Campbell and Mia Jaye Sarkodee-Adoo would both see last second attempts miss however as Loughborough hung on for the win.

Bristol Flyers got their season back on track as they claimed a 62-57 win over Solent. Flo Ward was in excellent form for the hosts as she finished with 22 points, six assists and eight steals. Krisztina Velkey top scored for Solent with 12 points.

Anglia Ruskin moved to 6-1 on the year as they easily beat BA London Lions II 88-56. The loss means that BA's winless streak to begin the year now sits at six games.
