Basketball coaches selected for UK Coaching programme

Four talented British basketball coaches have been selected onto UK Coaching’s Performance Foundation Support Programme, designed to help them maximise their potential and impact.

Canterbury Academy and Kent Crusaders coach Adam Davies, Newcastle Eagles WBBL head coach Chris Bunten, Leicester Riders WBBL head coach and GB Under 20 Women's assistant coach Krumesh Patel and GB Under 16 boys head coach Troy Culley are among the 47-strong list of coaches to be chosen for the 18-month programme.

This cohort is the programme’s third, having helped nearly 100 performance foundation level coaches finesse their practice so far. Both Alan Keane and Vanessa Ellis were included in the 2nd cohort of participants for the programme, which is currently ongoing.

Through a blended learning approach, coaches will have the benefit of:

  • one-to-one coach developer support
  • cross-sport communities of practice and learning
  • online social learning environments
  • workshop delivery from industry experts to expand knowledge and challenge thinking

UK Coaching's Head of Coaching Nick Levett, said: “We are excited to welcome this new batch of coaches onto our programme, the aim of which is to provide talent coaches with outstanding coach support.

“At UK Coaching, we are here for the coach, so I am proud that this piece of work is helping some of the UK’s most promising coaches feel more confident and competent in their abilities to help our very best athletes achieve their goals and ambitions.

“Once again, it is pleasing to have such a variety of coaches from different sports on the programme.”

Basketball England Delivery Manager Brian Aldred, said: We are delighted that four of our upcoming coaches have been accepted onto this year’s UK Coaching Performance Foundation Coach Support Programme.

“It is a unique coach development opportunity to inform their own coaching practice whilst adding value to our talent pathway and performance programmes. Initiatives like this will help Basketball England drive up standards of coaching and feed into key areas such as player development.”
