Basketball England club survey provides valuable insight

Basketball England recently contacted our network with a survey to find out more about what support clubs want from the organisation.

Clubs were asked about their thoughts on the introduction of a club accreditation scheme (similar to Sport England’s now defunct Clubmark scheme) and about the relationships they have with the local leagues, area associations and regional committees.

We were delighted that over 200 clubs responded to give us their thoughts, ranging from small to large club with a wide geographical spread, giving us a broad range of views and insight into the needs of our clubs.

The main findings from the survey were:

  • Clubs need help to identify ways to generate more funding
  • Clubs need help to recruit more volunteers to their club
  • Clubs need help to develop facilities or secure long access to facilities
  • The vast majority of respondents are supportive of the introduction of a club accreditation scheme subject to further information
  • Clubs need a better relationship with the network of area associations, regional committees and Basketball England regionally based staff

The next steps will be for staff working on the club support project at Basketball England to identify quick and practical ways that these areas can be addressed, also taking on board the communication preferences the clubs told us about in the survey and more details will follow shortly.

“Club basketball is so important to the game in England and the survey has given us a great insight into some of the priority needs of our clubs,” said David Butler, Delivery Director at Basketball England.

“It helps us to focus on the areas of club support that the clubs themselves have said they need help with which will help us to make difference to the club and member experience and I’d like to thank so many clubs for responding to the survey.”

All clubs who completed the survey were entered into a draw to win a supply of Wilson basketballs for their club.

The three lucky winning clubs drawn were Stroud Sharks, Abingdon Eagles and Middlesex University. The three clubs have been contacted to arrange delivery of their prizes.
