WNBL1 recap: Week 16 (13/14 February 2021) - streams, stats and more

For the first time in 2021, the weekend provided a pair of games for WNBL fans to enjoy as both Ipswich and Thames Valley secured valuable wins.

The reigning D1W champs easily saw off Reading in their first action of the new year, whilst the Cavs picked up their maiden win of the season as they saw off Worcester Wolves.

There's a recap of both this weekend's games below, and each result is also clickable if you wish to view the live stats.

Cavaliers get off the mark

Thames Valley Cavaliers (1-2) 59-52 Worcester Wolves (4-3)

Thames Valley sprung an upset against Worcester on Saturday, beating the top-four side 59-52.

Previously without a win from their pair of games in 2020, Thames Valley were able to hang with the Wolves throughout the first half, heading into the main change down by just a single point at 27-26.

The hosts would come out hot in the third, enjoying a 13-2 run to break the game open and establish a double digit lead.

Worcester would pull within four points late in the final quarter, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cavs iced the game from the line.

Eleanor Bishop top scored for TVC with 16 points and Katherine Goldsby fell just short of the double-double with eight points and 13 boards.

Carolina Marques was the standout performer for Worcester in defeat, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Ipswich continue to lead the way

Ipswich (7-1) 88-60 Reading Rockets (2-4)

Table topping Ipswich made short work of Reading on Saturday, winning 88-60.

With the Suffolk side always likely to make for stiff competition, a 30-9 opening quarter proved too much for the Rockets to overcome.

The hosts stamped their authority on the contest by winning the rebound battle 49-26, whilst also enjoying a healthy 18-4 advantage on the assist front.

Both those numbers were boosted by an 11 point, 16 rebound, four assist performance by Esther Little, and Harriet Welham led the team with six assists to go with a game-high 31 points.

No Reading player was able to make it into double digits on the score board, though Sitota Gines Espinosa and Eva Luzon both closed with nine points apiece.
