WNBL1 recap: Week 21 (20/21 March 2021) - live streams, stats and more

Cardiff grabbed their first win in D1W yesterday, with three other exciting games making up the week 21 schedule.

There were also victories for Reading, CoLA and Solent, with plenty to enjoy for WNBL fans across the country.

There's a recap of all the action below, and each result is also clickable if you wish to view the live stats.

Cardiff get off the mark

Cardiff Met Archers (1-5) 75-67 Nottingham Trent University (4-6)

Cardiff secured their maiden top-flight win following last season's promotion from D2, knocking off Nottingham Trent University 75-67.

The victory was powered by 25 points from the ever-present Amber Deane and a 27-17 third quarter, which helped to erase what had been a 15-point NTU lead.

The visitors still found time for some late drama, a Naomi Campbell's layup with 1:25 remaining left the score poised at 68-67 Archers, though the hosts closed with a 7-0 run that tipped the result more firmly in their favour.

Deane was well supported by Eloise Ferguson, who scored 19, and Isobel Bunyan, who had 14 points and nine boards.

Forward Isabel Bueriberi clocked a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds for Trent as Campbell and Evi Dekker both finished on 12 points.

Elsewhere this weekend

CoLA Southwark Pride (5-3) won their third game in a row as they took down the sliding Worcester Wolves (4-6) 68-54.

Simona Henshaw continued her recent top form for the hosts to drop a game-high 20 points, whilst Isi Ozzy-Momodu (16pts, 12reb) notched another double-double.

Only Inma Bautista (12pts) and Carolina Marques (11pts) made it into double digits for the Wolves, who have now lost five in a row.

Team Solent Kestrels (7-4) enjoyed some revenge against Thames Valley Cavaliers (3-5), beating them 76-69.

The Cavs secured a 92-67 victory over the South coast side two weeks ago, but the Kestrels refused to go quietly a second time thanks to 23 points and seven rebounds from Faye Endean, plus a 20 point, 10 board double-double from American Erica Meyer.

TVC were paced once again by Katherine Goldsby, who had 23 points.

Finally, it wasn't all good news for Cardiff this weekend as they began their double-header with a 74-55 loss to Reading Rockets (4-6).

A 20-8 opening quarter put the visiting Archers in a hole they couldn't climb out of, with the hosts leading wire-to-wire to secure the W.

Gaila Comesana (11pts, 9reb) was close to a double-double as Candela Hermida Nunez also knocked down 11 points.

Sitota Gines Espinosa was also pivotal to the win, falling just short of what would have been a stunning quadruple-double. She recorded eight points, nine rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals.

Amber Deane was the only Cardiff player to make it to double digits, closing on 18 points and 10 boards.
