NBL1, National Cup & KitKing Trophy preview: 4/5 November - live streams, stats and more

As November gets underway two competitions feature.

Saturday contains five D1M games as 10 sides all look to continue their climb up the standings before the first KitKing Trophy semi-final of the season takes place on Sunday.

We take a look at all of the weekend's action below, with links to live stats and live streams at the bottom of the page.

Worthing Thunder (1-2) vs Loughborough Riders (2-1)

Loughborough head to the South Coast this weekend looking for their third win of the season against Worthing Thunder.

The Riders have been solid in the early going, picking up victories against Hemel and Thames Valley before coming unstuck away to Reading last time out.

Elijah Bailey's 19.0PPG is good for a spot in the league's top ten, whilst Justin Hedley's 9.3RPG is also one of the best in D1M right now.

Loughborough have also been good at taking care of the ball this season, and the 23 turnovers and 28 points conceded from turnovers against the Rockets were both outliers on the early season. That's something they'll need to reduce against a Worthing side that ranks a D1M second-best with 10.3 steals per game.

Those turnovers have helped Thunder to build the third-toughest D in the league, conceding just 80.0PPG, but that hasn't always been converted into success with a 1-2 record.

Part of the reason for that is that Hafeez Abdul (13.7PPG), Tom Ward (13.0PPG) and Daniel Johnson-Thompson (13.0RPG) are the only Worthing players averaging over 10 points a game, so offence hasn't been Thunder's strength so far this campaign.

Expect a potentially low scoring clash tomorrow as both teams search for what would be a valuable two points.

Elsewhere this weekend

Proceedings begin tomorrow with co-leaders Derby Trailblazers (3-1) visiting Newcastle University (1-1).

DTB are a team on a roll right now, with Jonas Dieterich collecting Rebound POTW honours last weekend and Sam Masten joining him in the TOTW. That will provide Newcastle plenty of food for thought as they try to slow down one of D1M's hottest offences.

Bradford Dragons (1-3) got up and running with their first W of 2023/24 last weekend and they'll look to try and build on that with a home clash against Essex Rebels (2-1).

Reigning champs Hemel Storm (2-2) were on the receiving end of Dieterich's three-pointer barrage last weekend and will aim to bounce back with a home tie against D1M's only remaining winless side Barking Abbey (0-4).

That just leaves a clash between Thames Valley Cavaliers (1-3) and Nottingham Hoods (2-1) to round out the rest of Saturday's action.

After stringing together a pair of wins to start the season, Nottingham lost narrowly in Bradford last weekend. Hopefully a trip to TVC to face a Cavs teams struggling for momentum will see the Midlanders back to winning ways.

National Cup

The opening game of round four of the Men's National Cup takes place on Sunday when City of Birmingham Rockets visit D1 rivals and namesakes Reading.

With both flying high and unbeaten in league play it should make for a fascinating contest.

COB have hit the ground running on their return to the top flight with veteran Sam Toluwase featuring the average leaderboards for scoring (25.7ppg), efficiency (77) and three-point shooting (58.8%).

Firecracker guard Zack Powell is having a similarly impactful season so far for Reading, shooting the three at 60% clip and showing out with some spectacular dunks.

KitKing Trophy

The first of two KitKing Trophy semi-finals is on tap for this weekend as holders Hemel take a trip to Bradford Dragons on Sunday afternoon.

Hemel booked their place in the last four following a narrow 94-91 victory over D2 standouts Milton Keynes Breakers, and a match up with current D1M leading scorer Justin Williams (29.0PPG) will be another stern test of Storm's Trophy defence.

Bradford were the only non-group winners to advance to the SF, winning 85-82 on the road in Birmingham to end the Rockets' hopes of progressing.

The other semi-final between Reading Rockets and Derby Trailblazers is scheduled for 26 November.
