Survey launched for landmark study on outdoor basketball courts in England

Basketball England and the Hoopsfix Foundation are funding a landmark study into the importance of dedicated, high quality outdoor basketball facilities in England and are looking for survey respondents.

Working with the University of Bath and independent researcher Connor Russell, three months of qualitative analysis has already been performed focusing around the Clapham Common basketball court renovation that was completed in December 2021, and now quantitative data is needed through as many people as possible filling out a survey (which can be found here) on their outdoor basketball use and preferences.

“We’re excited about the potential for this piece of research,” Basketball England’s Head of Participation, Pete Griffiths commented.

“The more peer-reviewed research that exists on the importance of high quality, dedicated basketball facilities, the better it will be for the sport and making a case with local authorities and organisations to fund them.”

Any one who fills out the survey will be automatically entered into a draw for a Basketball England x Hoopsfix goody bag, consisting of basketballs and apparel.

“I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to fill out this survey,” Hoopsfix Foundation Executive Director Sam Neter added.

“People have complained about the quality of a lot of outdoor basketball spaces in England for years and this is an opportunity to affect change. It will be the first piece of published research on the impact of dedicated outdoor basketball courts in the UK, and will go a long way in helping to get more funded.”
