WNBL1 preview: 7/8 October - live streams, stats and more

The D1W season is underway, with another weekend of action already back on tap.

After six games a week ago, there's six more on the slate for this weekend as the new campaign continues to kick into life.

CoLA once again have another London derby to contend with as they host Barking, whilst last weekend's big winners Endeavour Ipswich Basketball head to Thames Valley.

We take a look at all the weekend's action below, with links to live stats and live streams at the bottom of the page.

Reading Rockets (1-0) vs Loughborough Riders (1-0)

Two sides that won their season-openers meet in Reading on Sunday as the Rockets host Loughborough.

Reading came through a close one on the road in Barking to start undefeated, winning 75-72 thanks in part to 28-point, 10-rebound double-double from the ever-impressive Lindsey Cleary.

The former D1W Team of the Year selection appears to still be key to what the Rockets want to do this season, with new signing Sante Moonie (14pts, 12reb) also doing well in East London,

After going 10-12 a season ago, Loughborough are looking to improve their fortunes going into 2023/24.

The Riders got their season off to an excellent start last weekend with a 61-57 victory over last season's league runners up Thames Valley, a side the Midlanders seem to like facing after also knocking TVC out of last season's playoffs.

Loughborough's continued improvement will be put to the test on the road in Berkshire against what will be a tough Reading team, but if the likes of Sasha Lecuyer can repeat the kind of form that saw her make the FocusHoops Team of the Week last time out, anything is possible.

Elsewhere this weekend

CoLA Southwark Pride (0-1) lost their season opener on the road against Brent last weekend. The former D1W winners will try to right those wrongs with their first home tie of the year this weekend, another London derby against Barking Abbey (0-1)

Brent Bulls (1-0) will try to move to 2-0 as they host a City of Birmingham (0-1) team that lost their first-ever D1W game last weekend as they went down against a Carina Costa inspired Manchester Mystics.

Anglia Ruskin University (1-0) are the next team to take on the rebuilding Team Solent Kestrels (0-1), who are looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat in Ipswich on opening day.

One of the ties of the weekend takes place on Sunday as last season's runners up Thames Valley Cavaliers (0-1) host in-form Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (1-0) and reigning Player of the Week Harriet Welham.

The tie should provide a good yardstick for both teams and their title aspirations, and a solid match up between two talented rosters is not to be missed.

The weekend ends Manchester Mystics (1-0) entertaining Bristol Academy Flyers (0-1), who lost their season opener against Anglia Ruskin last weekend. A second win for the newly-promoted Mystics would be an excellent start to their new campaign, however.
