WNBL1 recap: 20 January - live streams, stats and more

A pair of D1W games took place on Saturday, with wins for Barking and Brent.

Both games took place before attention turned to the WNBL National Cup Final in Manchester as Ipswich triumphed over Thames Valley.

We take a look at both games below, with links to live stats and live streams at the bottom of the page.

Loughborough Riders (8-6) 73-77 Brent Bulls (8-3)

Brent Bulls were able to keep their hot form alive as they beat Loughborough Riders 77-73.

The hard-fought road win came despite trailing by three points at the half, with a 31-22 third frame helping the Bulls to eventually emerge victorious.

Despite outshooting their opponents 41% to 34% on the same number of field goals attempts (67), Brent made the Riders pay from the line as they hit 26 of their 33 attempts to make all the difference in a tight encounter.

Judit Fritz (29pts, 7reb, 6ast) was a standout for the Bulls as the game's top scorer. Jess Davies (14pts, 15reb) continued to perform as one of the league's top rebounders, with Vanessa Akra adding 11 points off the bench.

Rose Bryan was the top scorer for Loughborough with 20 points, a Jasmine Graham (11ps) and Erin Powell (10pts, 6reb, 4ast) were the only other players to make it into double-digits.

With Ipswich and Thames Valley both in Manchester and without a league game, the win allowed Brent to create a four-way tie for second place on 16 points.

Elsewhere this weekend

The only other game of the weekend was a tight one as City of Birmingham Rockets (3-11) staged a fourth-quarter fight-back to beat Barking Abbey (4-8) 58-57.

The hosts trailed 48-42 heading into the final frame but the lead changed hands more than once before the final buzzer, with CoB claiming a valuable two points in their survival bid.

Catarina Seixas (14pts, 6reb, 6ast, 3stl) and Sarah Mullgrave (14pts, 6reb) both played solid games for the hosts, with Michelle Turner adding 10 points of her own.

Barking captain Ruchae Walton was her team's top scorer, dropping 15 points off the bench to go with eight rebounds.

The result also seals the head-to-head tiebreaker for CoB, should the two teams finish level on points at the end of the season.
