Basketball England Roadshows - update and future consultations

Across late April, May and early June, Basketball England held a number of roadshow events in all of its ten regions.

The aim of this activity was to provide information directly to members around changes to membership coming later in 2024, context to our new working relationship with the BBF and several updates on other areas of the game, including better communication and access to our services for members and clubs.

Shift in approach

Prior to the start of the roadshow, our chief executive Stewart Kellett shared an open letter on the digital challenges the National Governing Body is striving to overcome and other ways we are improving service to our members.

Speaking about the roadshows, Kellett said: “I was extremely pleased with the attendances, both in person and virtually, at these events and to have so many members from all parts of the basketball community engage, challenge and input into the discussions.

"It is clear from feedback, both during and after these roadshow events, that this type of opportunity is what members would like more of going forward, on a more regular basis. We will deliver on this feedback.”

In a shift in approach, there will be several opportunities to engage in upcoming consultations over the next 12 months. The next roadshow events are planned to take place in October/November 2024 and then again early in 2025 to consult on future priorities.

Kellett added: “The objective of these events going forward will be to better engage with our members on areas of development and change, update members on the work taking place on a local, regional and national level.

"We also want to better advise what areas of the game are our focus for investment and allow all member to contribute to the overall strategy to grow the sport at all levels.”

As the season unfolds, we are here to help all members to get the most from their basketball. We will be sharing a further message on our services and support to the membership before the season starts, including refining the content on our website so more information and support can be accessed.
