Basketball England – National Game Conference

Basketball England are hosting the National Game Conference for coaches and officials.

Along with this, we are hosting our sixth Basketball Sports Medicine Conference that will run in conjunction with the BBL/WBBL/NBL.

 It takes place at the National Basketball Performance Centre and St Peter's School, Manchester.

Officiating Conference - Friday 6th September - Sunday 8th September @ National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester (£85 - Referee - Day attendance, Lunch) (£45 - Table Official - Day attendance, Lunch)

Coaches Conference - Saturday 7th September  9am - 6pm @ National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester (£30 - Day attendance, Lunch and refreshments)

Basketball Sport Science Conference - Saturday 7th September 9am - 6pm @ National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester  (£60 - Day attendance, Lunch)

Volunteer Awards Dinner - Saturday 7th September 7pm @ Etihad Stadium (£45 - Three Course meal and welcome drink)

The Conference and Volunteer Awards Dinner will take place at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium. The conference dinner will include the presentation of the Basketball England Volunteer Awards, recognising the vital work done by the countless volunteers across our regions.

Basketball Sports Science and Medical Conference

The 2019 Basketball Sports Medicine Conference, in association with Spire Manchester Hospital, is the sixth annual event to be held by Basketball England.  The conference is open to physiotherapists, strength and conditioning coaches, sports physicians, doctors and sports scientists as well all coaches.

Officiating Conference

The conference is tailored towards NBL Referee Groups 1 to 4, NBL Table Officials and Referee & Table Official Observers. All other officials are welcome to attend. Officials, Group 5 to 7, who cannot make the NGC will be expected to attend a Regional Conference, details of which will be published soon.

This year sees a very experienced team of instructors delivering on key topics such as three-person officiating, play calling and individual officiating techniques, together with much more.

The agenda has been created based on analysis of observer reports and self-evaluations forms that have been completed over the season.

The guest speakers are:

Simon Unsworth - Is one of only a handful of Level 5 European Standard referees in the country, along with this he is also Basketball England's lead on officiating

Richard Stokes - Euroleague's Director of officiating

Kate Unsworth - FIBA Referee who refereed the 2018 Commonwealth games women's Bronze Medal game between Canada and New Zealand 

Alan Richardson - Is on the Board of Directors at Basketball England and is a FIBA-Accredited referee who has refereed at the European and World championships; along with this he held technical advisory (Euroleague) and technical consultancy (FIBA) roles for 10 years.

Dave Titmus - Has been a professional basketball coach for over 40 years. Within in this time he has been head coach of the England Men's and youth teams and assisted with GB teams. He hads been BBL and NBL head coach and is a winner 19 national titles. 

Neil Wilkinson - Is GB's National instructor for Officials and has over 26 years of officiating experience some of which has been at the highest level, including refereeing the men's Commonwealth final in Australia.

Coaches Conference

The coaches clinics will take place Saturday 7th September 2019, headed by experienced coach David Titmuss. Clinicians will also receive presentations from the GB Sports Science and Medical team as well as an interactive situational session with match officials .
