NBL1 recap: Week 13 (23/24 January 2021) - streams, stats and more

With four more D1M results in the book, plus the semi-final line-up for the L Lynch Trophy now completed, it's been another busy weekend in NBL1.

Saturday's action saw a blowout victory for Solent over local rivals Worthing, plus valuable wins for Hemel, Bradford and Thames Valley.

Sunday's only game saw Loughborough secure the final place in the L Lynch Trophy semis as they beat Bradford Dragons.

There is a recap of all five games below, and each result is also clickable if you wish to view the live stats.

Saturday stroll for Solent

Worthing Thunder (2-5) 57-107 Team Solent Kestrels (6-0)

First-place Solent had no problems in the South coast derby as they easily handled Worthing 107-57.

Orlan Jackman (22pts, 10reb) and Travis Charles (23pts, 10reb) both put up double-double performances as guard Andre Arissol (21pts, 5reb) also shone for the Kestrels.

Dropping 32 points in the opening quarter, the visitors proved too much for the Thunder as the lead only grew from that point on.

Ahead by more than 20 at the half, 57-36, the reigning champs refused to let up after the break as the difference between the sides continued to increase.

In a long afternoon for the hosts, even the usually reliable offensive option of Cam Hildreth was held to eight points (3-14FG), leaving Tom Ward to top score with 12.

Cavs keeping pace

Thames Valley Cavaliers (5-0) 93-71 BA London Lions (2-2)

The only other unbeaten side in NBL1, Thames Valley, stayed hot on the heels of Solent following a 93-71 victory over BA London Lions.

An even content through the early stages, the hosts broke the game open in the second quarter as a 14-2 run allowed the Cavs to lead 47-40 at the break.

Jase Harrison (19pts, 5reb) and Veron Eze (17pts) helped BA stay in the contest, reducing the deficit to just three points as the final quarter began.

Taking the fourth 28-11 allowed TVC to run out comfortable winners though, thanks in part to big games from Hakeem Sylla (31pts, 14reb), Bernard Hehetro (10pts, 10reb) and Taylor Johnson (20pts, 7reb, 6ast).

Elsewhere this weekend

Leicester Warriors are still searching for their first win of the season as they lost out to Hemel Storm 109-94.

Storm grabbed their 4th victory of the season thanks to an impressive double-double of 24 points and 14 boards from Greg Poleon, whilst guard Mike Williams comfortably led all scorers with 35 points.

Despite Leicester fight backs in both the second and fourth quarters, Hemel led this one tip to buzzer despite 25 points from Warriors' Leon Henry.

Finally, Oaklands' modest two-win streak came to an end this weekend as they were beaten 102-72 away to Bradford.

Veteran duo Ricky Fetske (25pts, 16reb) and Rihards Sulcs (21pts, 7reb) were both in fine form for the Dragons, whilst Myerscough's youngster Great Osobor enjoyed 18 points, 13 boards and three blocks on debut for coach Mellor's side.

Trailing 46-31 at the half, a 32-17 third quarter doomed the visitors and created a deficit that couldn't be overcome despite 28 points from Kane Daley.

L Lynch Trophy

Loughborough Riders 91-68 Bradford Dragons

Loughborough joined Worthing, Solent and Thames Valley in the hat for the L Lynch Trophy semi-finals after a comfortable 91-68 win over Bradford.

After the Yorkshire visitors grabbed an early lead, it was largely one way traffic for the hosts up to the half-time break, allowing the Riders to move ahead 49-38 by the main change.

Powered by double-double performances from Kyle Jimenez (18pts, 16ast), Harrison Gamble (28pts, 11reb) and Jonas Dieterich (20pts, 13reb), Loughborough claimed both quarters of the second half to extend their lead and seal a comfortable win.

Andreas Lycoudis (20pts, 6reb, 6ast) and Rihards Sulcs (21pts, 6reb) led the way for the Dragons, with Ricky Fetske adding a 13 point, 11 rebound double-double.
