BE's Talent Programme to step up support for U14 girls

Basketball England is expanding its England Talent Programme for U14 girls to increase the contact time and development of its young athletes.

Three additional sessions have been added to this season’s ETP activity, starting with a full day of training at Nottingham Wildcats Arena on 24 October.

The selected cohort of U14 girls will receive two two-hour on-court sessions and an educational session.

Committed to making real and lasting change to diversity and inclusion, BE has highlighted women and girls’ basketball as an area of underrepresentation in the sport, with less than 20% of its members female.

As stated in its Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, BE will expand women and girls’ initiatives across new age groups and regions, with year-on-year growth and retention metrics tracked.

BE Head of Talent and Performance Steve Bucknall said:

“We recognise that there are many talented young girls out there that are not getting the opportunity to develop their basketball skills in a performance environment and are missing out on progressing through the talent pathway.

“These additional sessions will increase our contact time with a wider pool of players, helping them be the best young athletes they can be.

“Ultimately, we want redress the balance and create more space for talent young women to represent England and transition to GB easily and smoothly.”?
