We're here to help

If something is worrying you and you need someone to listen, there are people that can help you. You might be worried about something that has happened on social media, something that happened at basketball training, or someone in basketball might be making you feel uncomfortable by what they are doing or saying. There are lots more things that could be worrying you. When this happens, you should speak to an adult that you trust, this could be a parent/guardian, a member of staff at your basketball club such as your club welfare officer, a teacher at your school, a doctor or nurse, or Childline / NSPCC.

You can also contact our safeguarding team here at Basketball England if you wish to. You can do this by filling in the form below. If you don't want to do this or need some help with it please give us a call on 0300 600 1170. You can ask a trusted adult to help you fill in this form or they can do it on your behalf.

Taking action

We want to give everyone the opportunity to discover and enjoy basketball. It is important that young people or adults can do this, regardless of their age, gender, disability or any other protected characteristic. If you have a concern about a child or adult, or someone that is working with children or adults, you can report it using the form below.

Remember:

  • You must take action to immediately safeguard children and adults at risk.
  • You must contact your Club Welfare Officer and if they are not available, or if you are concerned about the immediate safety of someone, contact the Police or Children's Social Care.
  • Expert advice can also be provided by the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000.

Have you:

  • Reassured the young person
  • Been honest and not made promises you cannot keep
  • Explained why you may have to tell other people in order to stop what's happening
  • Avoided closed questions and asked as few a questions as possible
  • Encouraged the child to use their own words

These are all important to remember when documenting and reporting a concern.

Reporting non recent abuse:

Basketball England takes allegations of non-recent abuse very seriously. If you choose to speak to us about your experience, we will listen, support you through the process and ensure that appropriate steps are taken in partnership with statutory services.
