Standout performances
Barking trailed Manchester 60-49 heading into the fourth quarter but staged a stunning comeback to stay unbeaten, using a 27-14 final frame to scrape through 76-74.
Anglia Ruskin were also made to work, trailing Brent by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before the hosts battled back, going 20-6 in the fourth to come through 57-53.
Milton Keynes were another making a fourth-quarter charge, but their 29-15 effort would still see them come up just short, going down 61-56 at home to East London Phoenix.
Life was more straightforward for Endeavour Ipswich Bobcats as they handed CoLA a rare home league loss, winning 81-48 to get their schedule up and running in style.
Worcester survived a late wobble to hold off London All Stars, winning 71-63, and London Cavaliers had too much quality for Bristol Flyers with a 100-35 final score.
What does it mean for the standings?
Anglia Ruskin and Barking Abbey remain the pace setters at 4-0, with East London Phoenix (2-0) and Ipswich (1-0) the only other unbeaten sides.
There's alarm bells ringing for Manchester (0-4), Bristol (0-3) and Brent (0-2) as the league's trio without a win so far.
WNBL Division One Playoff Structure
Player-of-the-week candidates
Noelle Mannen (23pts, 7reb, 4ast, 6stl) put in a fine two-way performance for East London Phoenix against Milton Keynes, and a pair of stars shone for Ipswich against CoLA.
Fans will be familiar with former D1W Player of the Year winner Harriet Welham (34pts, 12reb, 5ast, 4stl, 2blk), but 16-year-old Nikita Cornford had a league debut to remember with 22 points, 12 boards and three steals.
A "slower game" from Olivia Rangel's still involved 28 points, seven rebounds and six steals as she continued her torrid pace to start the year, and that output was needed against Brent's Sante Moonie (14pts, 18reb, 6ast).
Sharliyah Sutherland (17pts, 8reb, 5ast) and Sytira Smith (16pts, 8reb) combined to keep Barking unbeaten, and Catarina Seixas (13pts, 5reb, 7ast) and Ciani Montgomery (13pts, 14reb, 7ast) were both needed to see off a huge game for London All Stars' Kat Goldsby (26pts, 8reb, 8ast, 5stl).
Janice Monakana (20pts, 5reb) led the way for the London Cavaliers in their rout of Bristol as team mate Zuri Mullings (14pts, 7reb, 3stl) starred off the bench with a 14:42 cameo.
Watch out for the winner on our social channels, with the announcement going live at 6pm on Monday evening.
