WNBL D1 Recap (19/20 Sep 2026) - results, stats, streams and more

Two of the league's newly promoted sides, Barking Abbey and Milton Keynes Breakers, both grabbed statement wins, and defending playoff champs Anglia Ruskin are also off to a winning start after they beat last season's D1W National Cup champs Manchester Magic.

Standout performances

Barking Abbey and Milton Keynes both gave the league a warning shot that they mean business this year with wins on opening weekend.

Barking handled Bristol with ease, cantering to an 80-32 victory, but MK had to work a little harder, coming through in OT for the two-point win. The visitors had to erase a six-point deficit with 1:41 remaining before getting the job done in the extra frame, taking that 11-9 behind a stunning performance from Chantelle Okoli.

Big games from Monife Abidekun and Rhianna Addison Obuhoro helped CoLA get their season off to a winning start, knocking off cross-town rivals London All Stars 63-55.

That just left Anglia Ruskin to erase a 17-12 Manchester lead after a slow opening quarter, eventually using a 17-9 third to seal a 61-55 win in the North West behind a solid outing from Olivia Rangel.

What does it mean for the standings? 

Early wins for Barking and MK suggest that D1W could be as wide-open as ever in 2026/27.

Familiar challengers CoLA and defending champs ARU are both into the win column, but Worcester and Manchester will be disappointed to have started with an L.

Player-of-the-week candidates 

Barking's Sharliyah Sutherland (18pts, 6reb, 19eff) was a big driver behind BA's sizable win over Bristol Flyers, and Olivia Rangel (23pts, 7reb, 5ast, 3stl, 27eff) was a fine form for ARU.

CoLA's Monife Abidekun (21pts, 5reb, 5stl, 16eff) and Rhianna Addison Obuhoro (14pts, 3reb, 3stl, 16eff) both needed to be at their best to see of London All Stars' Kat Goldsby (17pts, 16reb, 7stl, 17eff) as she neared triple-double territory.

Reigning MVP Ciani Montgomery (9pts, 13reb, 7ast, 4stl, 20eff) nearly dragged Worcester to a win but the Wolves were denied by a standout effort from MK's Chantelle Okoli (24pts, 11reb, 3ast, 4stl, 30eff)
