WNBL D1 Recap (26/27 Sep 2026) - results, stats, streams and more

BA claimed a statement win against perennial contenders CoLA, and fellow newly promoted outfit Milton Keynes had no issues seeing off London All Stars.

The third of this season's new sides, East London Phoenix, also grabbed a win on their D1W, with defending champs Anglia Ruskin continuing their unbeaten start to the campaign as well.

Standout performances

The headlines from the second weekend of the season belong to Barking after their narrow 66-62 victory against CoLA.

Leading for the majority of the contest, they held of Pride's late charge to seal a statement win, with recent Team of the Week pick Sharliyah Sutherland top-scoring for Abbey in the win. GB international Shequila Joseph also impressed off the Barking bench with five points and a valuable 12 rebounds.

Last season's Anglia Ruskin finished third before streaking to the playoff title, but their regular season produced a number of defeats against other teams in the top four.

That included home and away losses to eventual regular season champs London Cavaliers, but that Cavs streak was broken thanks to an Olivia Rangel-inspired 75-59 victory.

A 26-13 final quarter and an 18-8 opener bookended a confident 75-50 win for Milton Keynes against London All Stars, and Worcester are back to winning ways, beating Manchester 50-43 thanks for a 17/12 double-double from Eri Bukoye. 

That just left East London Phoenix to edge out Bristol Flyers for their maiden D1W success, winning 53-49 despite trailing for the vast majority of the contest.

What does it mean for the standings? 

Pace-setters from a year ago, London Cavaliers, opened their campaign with a loss, instead leaving Barking Abbey, Milton Keynes and Anglia Ruskin to head up the pack at 2-0.

The Cavs, alongside WNBL National Cup holders Manchester Mystics (0-2), Bristol (0-2) and London All Stars (0-2) all remain winless, with Ipswich and Brent yet to get their season's underway.

Player-of-the-week candidates 

Anglia Ruskin's Olivia Rangel left WNBL fans in little doubt as to who the latest Player of the Week would be after a stunning 24-point, 20-rebound, six-assists, six-steal effort against London Cavaliers.

Sharliyah Sutherland (18pts, 6reb) impressed for BA, cancelling out a double-double from CoLA's Monife Abidekun (19pts, 11reb) and a strong outing from Chandera Jones-Aryeh (18pts, 8reb, 4ast).

Nuri Calderon's season debut (16pts, 8reb) couldn't push Bristol to a win, with Elizabeth Esan (18pts, 5reb) and Wuraola Ijelu (14pts, 11reb) both getting the job done for East London.

For the second weekend in a row, Kat Goldsby (29pts, 9reb, 4stl, 3blk) was in great form for London All Stars, with Faith Deakin (14pts, 4reb, 3ast) the top scorer from a well-balanced MK attack.

Manchester's Alexandra Hernandez (14pts, 5reb, 3ast, 5stl) and Worcester's Eri Bukoye (17pts, 12reb) enjoyed a toe-to-toe battle, but it was a well-rounded stat line from Megan Verbeeten (12pts, 11reb, 5ast, 3blk) that helped the Wolves past the Mystics in the end.
