Everything you need to know about hosting your own course

Clubs, leagues, associations, regions, schools, colleges and universities - all can host officiating courses.

Our Level 1 and 2 Referee, Level 1 and 2 Table Official and Introduction to Statistics courses are available to be organised.

Each course is set up slightly differently and there are a number of options for an organiser to choose from.

The preferred option is for the organiser to set up the course so that both the theory and the practical learning elements are delivered to the learners, by a tutor in a face-to-face environment. Alternatively, the organiser could organise a course where the learners complete the theory modules in their own time at home.

For the Level 1 and 2 Referee courses the practical learning is always on-court in a face-to-face environment.

Both the Level 2 Referee and Table Official Courses have a theory examination and a practical assessment. The theory examination is available to the learner within the Learning Nexus platform once the theory modules have been completed.

The practical assessments are completed by the learner by way of officiating games whilst under the supervision of an assessor.

Four games are required for a Level 2 referee learner and four games are required for a Level 2 table officials learner (2 x scorer & 2 x timer). Learners should complete a number of practice games before attempting their assessment games.

The learner needs access to a laptop, computer or smart device (phone or tablet) in order to complete the online modules. Learners must also be a Basketball England member or subscriber to access the course - they will need to provide their membership number when signing up to the course.

As the organiser, you are responsible for booking and paying for the venue and tutor. Basketball England can support you with the booking of an approved tutor where required.

Once the course has been registered and approved by Basketball England, you will be provided with a course code alongside the instructions for your learners to register for the course so they can access the learning platform.
