About the EABL

The Elite Academy Basketball League - known as the EABL - is the premier junior basketball competition in the UK.

It features Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) Institutions, which are the top Under-19 programmes in the country (Category 1 Academies), and players studying for the DiSE qualification.

Diploma in Sporting Excellence

DiSE is a two-year, Department for Education (DfE) funded programme. It is a unique sporting qualification designed to meet the needs of student athletes who exhibit the potential to achieve excellence in basketball.

The main focus is to deliver a complementary performance development programme, allowing students to combine basketball and education, so that they have the skills, knowledge, and qualifications to pursue a dual career in high level sport alongside separate paid employment in the future.

The EABL

The EABL - and its sister league the WEABL - is the competition outlet for the DiSE programme and is considered the premier competition for talented 16-19-year-olds.

The EABL was launched in 2010 in partnership with the AoC. The purpose of the league is to provide the highest level of school/college competition in the country. The competition is divided into a North and South pool, teams compete every Wednesday afternoon in a bid to secure league, cup, and play-off success.

This weekly competition supports the needs of potential elite athletes by giving them the opportunity to test their skills at the highest level possible during the academic calendar.

Each season, the EABL is split into Northern and Southern Conferences.

How it works

Teams will play the other teams in their conference twice (home and away) throughout the regular season, and there is no cross over in fixtures between teams in opposite conferences.

The top four teams from each conference then advance to the playoffs.

EABL Playoffs – Elite Eight

A - Northern 1 v Southern 4
B - Northern 2 v Southern 3
C - Southern 1 v Northern 4
D - Southern 2 v Northern 3

EABL Playoffs – Final Four

SF1 - Winner of A v Winner of D
SF2 - Winner of B v Winner of C

EABL Championship Game

Winner of SF1 v Winner of SF2

In all cases, the higher seeded team in any playoff match up (except the Championship Game) will retain home court advantage.
