Reigning champs CoLA will be out to defend their title
Starting strong
A number of leading lights will be hoping to start the new season in positive fashion, but that might be easier said than done in what should be a highly-competitive D1W.
Defending champs CoLA have a road trip to Worcester Wolves, who have called on their fans to come out in force and bring the noise ahead of their opener.
Anglia Ruskin finished fourth a year ago but have been tabbed as some a dark horse for this season's title. Standout guard Tia Freeman is positive about her side's chances of silverware as they try to start hot against London All Stars.
Brent head into the new season as somewhat of an unknown. The status of Judit Fritz remains unclear, and American Lindsey Cleary has signed for Badel in North Macedonia. The pair contributed 43.0PPG between them last season, leaving a huge gap in production for the Bulls to fill.
The other top four finisher from 2024/25, Ipswich, don't start their season until next week's much-anticipated clash with ARU.
Same faces, new places
As always, it has been a busy off-season of activity across the league.
Loughborough have retooled their roster with standout Ipswich pair Louisa Gibbins and Hannah Gray, whilst adding WEABL talent in the shape of former MVP Isobel Robinson (Manchester) plus Caitlin Ryan (Oaklands) and Lovelle Green (CoLA).
London Cavaliers' signing of Janice Monakana is sizable warning shot across the league, as is the return of Chinwe Iwunze, though Kat Goldsby's departure will be a huge loss, not only to the Cavs but the league as a whole.
It's not all change for some, though. Bristol have retained the likes of Marlee Ball, Leila Jepson and Sammy Roscoe as they look to build on last season's fifth-place finish, whilst multiple-MVP winner Harriet Welham is back for more with Ipswich.
HoopsHQ keeps fans in the heart of the action
Basketball England’s new game-day app HoopsHQ is now live and available to download.
HoopsHQ is the one-stop shop for everyone participating and following Basketball England’s leagues and competitions, including the NBL, WNBL and Jnr. NBL.
It means players, coaches and supporters will be able access up-to-the-minute information on games, including – where digital scoring is utilised – live updates. FIBA Live Stats will still be used in relevant NBL and WNBL competitions.
The app will feature scores, standings and fixtures, plus basic player and team stats, and will be where participants' Basketball England licence cards will be hosted for the upcoming season.
