About the #ProjectSwish ball
Basketball England and Wilson launched the new second-edition #ProjectSwish ball in 2024.
Coming in Size 6 and 7, the new colourway, designed once again by Project in the Paint’s Gareth Roberts, has been inspired by the early to late 80s Memphis Group design style, known for its defining look of bright colours, geometric shapes, and zig-zagged or squiggly line motifs.
Roberts wanted to replicate the style on Mark II of the #ProjectSwish ball to symbolise the energy and movement of the outdoor game, as well as to salute the golden era of street ball.
“It’s an honour to have been asked to design the second limited-edition ball for #ProjectSwish,” said Roberts.
“The Memphis Group design is the language of basketball. When I first started playing the game in the early 90s this is how it looked, felt and sounded. The balls, shoes, clothes, team logos and soundtrack of hip-hop all referenced Memphis (knowingly or not).
“The shapes and patterns are a visual metaphor of the movement, expression, creativity and dynamism of basketball."
