Basketball England Club or Team Status Affiliation
With PlayHQ, you can now choose to register as a club or team—this page helps you decide which is most suitable.
With the introduction of PlayHQ, we can set up each organisation up in the most appropriate manner, our previous membership system only enabled organisations to set up as clubs, therefore we wanted to ensure you had all the information to decide whether you should set up as a club or a team.
Please see below some information on what organisations should be set up as clubs and what organisations can be set up as a team through the system.
The cost of affiliating as a Basketball England club is £100 per year.
Who should affiliate as a club
- If you have junior or senior National League teams you are required to be an affiliated Basketball England Club
- If you have a junior Local League Team, you are required to be an affiliated Basketball England Club
- If you deliver any of Basketball England Junior programmes you are required to be an affiliated Basketball England clubs
- If as an organisation you have more than 3 teams competing, it is strongly recommended that set yourself up as a club and affiliate with Basketball England.
Who can affiliate as a team
- If you are a single or two ‘team’ operation that competes in a senior Local League competition, you will have the option to set yourself up as a team that sits under your leagues umbrella
- If you are a school who competes in the Jr. NBA or Dynamik National Schools Competition you do not have to affiliate as a club.
Important information for Teams
- If you are a senior team that has an under 18 player that is in your team, they must complete the parent consent form to play in any affiliated Basketball England competition
- All members of teams are required to be Basketball England participant members to play in their Local League,
- If a player is not signed participant member they will not have a profile in PlayHQ and they will not be covered by our members insurance
- If you set yourself up as a team you will not receive club member benefits, such as specific club insurance and access to funding.
What makes a club
If your organisations match up with the below areas, you should affiliate as a club:
- Clubs are governed by a constitution which sets out the rules the club will use to run their operation
- Clubs have formal membership options for their participants to join their organisation
- Clubs have a committee structure in place which includes a chair who oversees the operations of the organisation

How to register as a Team through PlayHQ
Within PlayHQ, league administrators will invite teams to participate in their leagues, leagues will send invite to team managers, once the team is a part of the competition a registration link will be created for all members of the team to purchase their membership.
When going through the registration process a team will agree to both Basketball England and the Leagues terms and conditions.
It is important to note:
- The team will not have to pay a Basketball England affiliation fee, however any fees set by the league would be paid when registering.
- Clubs have a landing page on PlayHQ where they manage their operations, there is no need for a team to have a profile, they will however have access to all fixturing, results, stats and live scoring through the platform.
