Courses: Table official Level 1
This course provides an introduction for complete beginners to the game. The course gives you an insight into the basic duties and responsibilities of a timer and scorer.
Level 1 table officials can officiate at school games, local leagues and at a recreational level.

Expected duration: 3 hours (2 hours online modules and 1 hour scoresheet assessment).
Pre-requisites: A Basketball England member, no previous officiating experience required
Recommended minimum age: 14 years
Once you have signed up, candidates will receive access to the online learning by the end of the next working day.
Learner requirements
- Ensure that you are a Basketball England member
- Sign up to the course and pay HERE
- Complete the online modules (estimated time 2 hours)
- Complete and pass the practice scoresheet assessment
- Purchase a table official licence. This is required before officiating any game
- Start your journey as a table official and officiate some games
You will need access to a laptop, computer or smart device to complete the online modules.
Theory modules
The course consists of modules which you can complete at your own pace. You are able to learn in your own time and can keep coming back to Learning Nexus as often as you like. The modules consist of:

- Role of the Timer
- Role of the Scorer
- Completing a Scoresheet
- Other Information, Examination and Next Steps
Practice scoresheet assessment
You will provided with a game video in the online modules and you are required to complete the first quarter of the scoresheet.
Once you have completed the course you are ready to officiate some games. Learners should start their officiating with lower level games in the first instance - junior central venue league games and local recreational level is perfect practice and a great training ground for new starters.
Before officiating any games you are required to sign-up to the Basketball England Membership portal, pay for a table official licence and complete any of the eligibility requirements. If you are over 16 you will require a DBS check and to complete a safeguarding self-declaration. If you are over 18 you require both of these and in addition a safeguarding qualification. Completing the qualification
Upon completion of the online modules and practice scoresheet assessment, you will be qualified and receive an e-certificate.
