Jamell Anderson

About Jamell

Nottingham’s finest Jamell Anderson is one of the greatest ever home-grown British basketball players.

He has suited up for many a professional side, including stints in Australia and Spain, but it was predominately in the Super League Basketball (formerly the British Basketball League) where he made his name, becoming a fan-favourite wherever he went because of his incredible athleticism, defence ability and sincerity with fans – won over by his million-pound smile.

In the league, Anderson played for the Leicester Riders, Manchester Giants, Cheshire Phoenix and Sheffield Sharks.

His stints in the UK men’s elite league saw him win the championship twice, as well picking up two Cups and one Trophy.

He also represented Great Britain numerous times, but he says his greatest career moment came in an England jersey, as he was part of the team that won 3x3 gold at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The first British basketball gold medal ever achieved on an international stage.

Currently the Manchester-based veteran is preparing to make his third and final appearance for England at a Commonwealth Games.

At his first – Gold Coast 2018 - the 6ft7 power forward hit the headlines after proposing to partner and England Women’s basketball player Georgia Jones on the court.

In 2025, he made the decision to retire from 5v5 basketball to concentrate on 3x3 full-time and now plays for London 3x3, the UK’s only full-time professional 3x3 outfit, where he travels the world, competing on the professional 3x3 circuit.

Recently he was invited by Team England to share his story as part of a panel hosted by Fortnum & Mason, London, was invited to Number 10 Downing Street to meet former-Prime Minister Keir Starmer and helped launch 17 outdoor basketball courts across Birmingham, as part of the gold medal legacy he and his teammates created that fateful summer four years ago.
