  • About Shanice

One of the most recognisable and energetic presences in British basketball, Shanice Beckford-Norton ignites momentum on every court she graces, and off it is a mentor, role model and source of inspiration for many, especially girls and young women in the game.

The Londoner, who plays for and coaches at Oaklands Wolves, is the most decorated player in the history of Women’s Super League Basketball Women (SLBW) (formerly the Women’s British Basketball League). She has 15 trophies to her name, including a European trophy; one of the few home-grown players to win continental silverware with a British team.

She has major international tournament presence; regularly selected for GB through consecutive international cycles, including the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers and the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.

Alongside her GB caps, she spearheaded the England 3x3 Women’s team to silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games - exposing a whole generation of girls to the power of basketball.

She currently plays for Oaklands Wolves and runs a charitable organisation ‘SBN: For the Kids’. The not-for-profit provides opportunities for children from disadvantaged areas of London to play basketball and be involved with sport.

Beckford-Norton was invited by Commonwealth Sport to tell her story at the Commonwealth Sport High Commissioners reception in London and was invited to 10 Downing Street to showcase how basketball has shaped her life.

As part of this year’s Commonwealth Games celebrations, she was part of the Team England leg of the King’s Baton relay that took place at St Paul’s Cathedral.
