Basketball was first introduced into the Commonwealth Games programme at Melbourne 2006.

England fielded teams in both the men's and women's competitions.  

England men were in Group B and up against New Zealand, Barbados and South Africa. 

The roster featured:

A 2-1 record saw the lads progress to the semi-finals, where they were beaten 101-75 by Australia. 

The bronze-medal game was a different story, however, with England securing their place on the podium, beating Nigeria 80-57.

Double bronze for England 

England were in Group A in the women's competition with Australia, India and Mozambique.

With their only loss coming against Australia (95-43) in the group stages, England progressed into the knockouts comfortably.

They faced New Zealand in the semi-finals, losing 67-74.

Redemption came in the bronze-medal game, where England women also beat Nigeria, 78-75 to come away with bronzeware.
