Egemen Onen steps down from the Basketball England Board
Egemen Onen has stepped down from the Basketball England Board after almost five years of service.
Onen, who joined Basketball England as an independent non-executive director in December 2021, leaves with immediate effect due to additional responsibilities he has taken on in his professional life.
During his tenure, he brought a valuable combination of commercial expertise, strategic insight and first-hand knowledge of the global basketball landscape, drawing on his work with athletes, clubs, governing bodies and major sporting events.
Onen said: “It has been a privilege to serve on the Basketball England Board and contribute to the development of a sport that has shaped so much of my life.
“With the growth of my professional commitments and the additional responsibilities I have taken on internationally, I feel this is the right time to step down and allow someone else to give the role the time and attention it deserves.
“I would like to thank Chair Paul Blanchard, my fellow Board members and the Basketball England team for their collaboration and commitment. I remain passionate about the future of basketball in this country and look forward to supporting its continued progress.”
BE Chair Paul Blanchard said: “I would like to thank Egemen for the expertise, insight and enthusiasm he has brought to Basketball England over almost five years.
“His strategic input has been particularly valuable, combining strong commercial understanding with a first-hand perspective on the competitive side of basketball. As someone operating globally across the sport, he has brought an informed view of the international landscape and the opportunities for English basketball within it.
“We understand his decision as his professional responsibilities continue to grow, and I, alongside the rest of the organisation, wish him every success in the future.”
