The Future of GB Basketball - Consultation process reaches key milestone
Stakeholders involved in the consultation on the future governance of basketball in Great Britain have reached an important milestone, achieving directional agreement on the future development of GB Basketball and the next phase of work outlined within the agreed roadmap.
This represents significant progress in a complex process involving organisations from across the British basketball landscape and provides a platform for the continued development of a long-term business model and governance framework for the sport.
Since the establishment of the Interim Delivery Group in May, attention has remained focused on two priorities: maintaining the successful delivery of Great Britain's national team programmes across both 5v5 and 3x3, while progressing discussions on the long-term future of GB Basketball.
Working alongside the General Manager and Heads of Basketball, the Interim Delivery Group has provided stability, oversight and decision-making during a challenging period for the sport. This has enabled players, coaches, support staff and volunteers across the GB programme to continue representing Great Britain on the international stage, with highlights including the recent Senior Men’s win vs Slovakia in Newcastle.
Alongside this delivery activity, the wider Consultation Group has continued its work on the future governance and operating model for GB Basketball. Supported by specialist strategic advisers from CAA Portas, stakeholders have been exploring options for a sustainable and effective future model that can support both high-performance success and the wider development of the game across Great Britain.
