WNBL D1 & National Cup Recap (3/4 Oct 2026) - Live Stats, streaming, quotes and more

League and Cup made for a busy weekend for D1W sides, with plenty of action across the country.

Newly promoted Barking Abbey moved into a tie at the top after they saw off Milton Keynes, with Anglia Ruskin joining them at the summit after they knocked off Worcester Wolves.

It's alarm bells in the North West though as current WNBL National Cup holders Manchester Mystics fell to 0-3, making them the first three-loss team of the new campaign.

Standout performances

The clash of the 2-0s went the way of Barking, leading from practically wire to wire with a 67-49 final score against Milton Keynes Breakers.

A pair of late free throws from Summer Eytle-Rock helped London All Stars edge past Manchester Mystics, securing a see-saw contest 56-55 for the All Stars' first win of the season.

London Cavaliers also picked up their first victory of the new term, beating Brent 73-60 in the Bulls' season opener.

A 24-13 final frame helped blow open what had been a two-point game going into the final frame as the Cavs ran out as comfortable victors.

Worcester were the latest team to endure the Olivia Rangel show as the ARU standout once again ran wild in her side's 73-60 win.

The American continues to set D1W alight as her latest performance pushed the defending champs into a share of top spot.

What does it mean for the standings?

Barking and ARU share top spot at 3-0, with a clash between the duo on Halloween in East London looking increasingly like must-see viewing.

A first win of the season for London All Stars and London Cavaliers will have both teams breathing a sigh of relief, but the same can't be said of Manchester Mystics as they slip to the foot of the standings at 0-3.

Player-of-the-week candidates

It's going to be hard for anyone to get past Olivia Rangel for weekly honours at this pace, with the American pouring in weekend-high 33 points to go with 15 boards and five assists.

Ruskin team mate Kaiya Bateman (20pts, 6reb, 4stl) was also in fine form, cancelling out strong showings from Worcester's Eri Bukoye (22pts, 12reb, 4ast) and Ciani Montgomery (21pts, 12reb, 7stl).

A 17-point, 12-rebound double from Janice Monakana helped London Cavs' to a win, coming out on top of a fine battle down low and on the glass with Brent's Sante Moonie (10pts, 18reb).

15 points from Kat Goldsby and seven more plus 12 boards from Eytle-Rock were big for London All Stars in their narrow win over Manchester, and a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double off the Barking bench from Cecilia Victorious helped her side past Milton Keynes, as the Breakers' received a 12/10 double-double of their own from Chine Ibegbulam.

Watch out for the winner on our social channels, with the announcement going live at 6pm on Monday evening.

WNBL National Cup

The Round of 16 of the WNBL National Cup provided plenty of excitement, starting on Saturday with Tees Valley Mohawks' narrow 66-62 win over Sheffield Arrows thanks to 22 points from TVM's Vilma Jurgaityte.

Former winners Solent Kestrels are safely through after they beat South coast rivals Portsmouth Force 90-41, and BA came through the all-D1W clash against East London Phoenix 65-53.

D1W strugglers Bristol were upset 67-45 by D2 outfit Plymouth Marjon Raiders, led by 23 points from Darcy Pafford, and Worcester Wolves were ousted 65-64 by former D1W side Cardiff Met Archers II after a 27-point effort from Martha Roberts.

Home venue issues with both ring and backboard wrecked Endeavour Ipswich Basketball's early season schedule, however, coach Drane's side are finally up and running after 23 points from Katie Bennett pushed the Suffolk side to an 86-55 W against Oaklands Wolves.

London Cavaliers, London All Stars, Anglia Ruskin, Milton Keynes and Brent also advanced, bolstering a healthy quota of D1W sides in the hat for the next round.
