Heather Maxwell and the Wolves battled past CoLA for an early upset (Worcester Wolves)
Standout performances
Worcester Wolves found a way to get past a CoLA team that beat them three times from three in 2024/25, coming through 72-61 following a period of OT.
Both sides had chances to win in regulation, including CoLA's Debra Wilson-Osuide's late triple attempt, before the hosts won the extra period for a statement early W.
The 'Kat' is out the bag for London All Stars as their new signing, former London Cavalier Kat Goldsby, put in a solid debut performance to down Anglia Ruskin 68-57.
Fellow newly-promoted side Bromsgrove couldn't follow suit though, they went down 76-59 against a Chinwe Iwunze-inspired London Cavaliers.
What does it mean for the standings?
With just three games played, it's hard to draw any kind of early conclusions at this stage. Still, CoLA lost just three regular-season games in 2024/25 so to see them starting in defeat is a surely a surprise to many WNBL fans.
Player-of-the-week candidates
There were some big performances across the opening weekend.
Worcester's new American signing, Ciani Montgomery (feature image), made a splash, dropping 31 points on 12/21 shooting against CoLA, adding six rebounds and three assists to a stunning debut.
All Stars' Kat Goldsby (19pts, 6reb, 5stl) didn't take long to acclimatise to her new surroundings, and Chinwe Iwunze (26pts, 13reb, 4stl) enjoyed a strong homecoming for the Cavs.
