Basketball England seeking new Chief Executive Officer
Basketball England has begun the search for the organisation's next Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Since previous CEO Stewart Kellett's period in the role ended in June 2025, the organisation has been overseen on an interim basis by Nigel Walker OBE.
Walker has held roles at Welsh Rugby Union as Executive Director of Rugby, acting CEO and Performance Director, spent 11 years as National Director of the English Institute of Sport (now UK Sports Institute) and enjoyed a 10-year career at BBC Wales as Head of Sport, among other roles. His interim period overseeing basketball's NGB is for six months whilst a permanent appointment is made.
Working with GatenbySanderson, a world-class leadership recruitment firm specialising in the the public sector, BE is searching for the right person to lead the the organisation forward and shape the future of one of the UK’s most dynamic and inclusive sports.
The new appointment will be tasked with the following key priorities:
- Lead the delivery of our new strategic objectives for 2025/26 and beyond, whilst positioning the organisation as a bold, outward-facing body that leads by example and sets the standard for best practice
- Drive commercial growth to ensure that our sport is fit for the future; commercially sustainable, and operationally excellent
- Champion innovation and sustainability: balancing innovation, whilst sustaining the rich heritage of the sport
- Elevate basketball’s voice and influence, articulating what Basketball England stands for and connecting deeply to our communities and partners
