EuroBasket groups confirmed for Great Britain U16, U18 teams

Great Britain’s youth teams today learned their opponents for the upcoming 2026 FIBA Youth EuroBasket tournaments.

Following a live draw on Thursday 5 February 2026 in Freising, Germany, three of GB’s four groups were finalised, with the U16 Girls still to come as a format and location for that tournament are still waiting to be confirmed.

In the U16 Men’s competition, GB will travel to Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia’s capital, in early August, looking to improve on last season’s 15th-place finish in Division B.

To do so, GB will need to play well in group D against the likes of Denmark, Austria, Hungary and Estonia.

Only the top two in the group will progress with a chance at a top eight finish and a shot at promotion to Division A.

The U18 Men have a been handed a tougher draw as they face Belgium, who were relegated from Division A in 2025.

Group C also contains Finland, Netherlands and Cyprus, plus a home nations clash with Ireland, as a top two finish is once again the aim in Croatia’s Rijeka and Opatija.

Finishing sixth a year ago, the U18 Women will be hoping to build on that campaign and push for promotion in 2026.

Heading to Tulcea, Romania on the last day of July, Group D contains Slovakia, Greece, North Macedonia and Denmark, with the Danes representing a side that GB defeated 89-67 in Group D in 2025.

There are no GB teams entered at U20 level for this year’s tournaments.

The decision to only enter four rather than six GB teams has been based on the funding available to support the programmes. With a limited pot of resource available following the liquidation of the BBF late last year, it was decided to prioritise the entry of the younger teams at the start of their GB journeys.

Overall, there are a total of 246 teams registered across the summer's tournaments with 130 men's teams and 116 women's teams taking part in the youth events.
