NBL D1 Preview (26/27 Sep 2026) - Live Stats, streaming, quotes and more

The action began in the North East on Thursday night with a much-anticipated Cup tie between last season's D1 outfit Teesside Lions and one of the teams that replaced them coming up from D2, neighbours Tees Valley Mohawks. The visiting Mohawks coming out on top 77-63 behind a game-high 23 points (13rbs) from Logan Ryan.

Another cup tie, Plymouth vs Exeter Spartans is on Friday evening, before 11 games make up the league offering on Saturday, with five contests in Pool A and six from Pool B.

Twenty five second-round cup games then fill up Sunday, with the likes of D1's Birmingham City University, Manchester Magic, Barnet Bulldogs and Barking Abbey all involved.

In the list below, a * is for Pool A games, and a + is for Pool B games.

Pool A

BCU's reward for an impressive road win against Worcester last Friday is another tough clash, this time against another top-four finisher from a year ago Manchester Magic.

The Wolves will look to bounce back against St Helens, as will Liverpool and Tees Valley, who meet in the North West after both taking an L last weekend.

Newly promoted Gloucester City Kings get their first D1M campaign underway as they travel to Leicester Warriors, and Myerscough head to South Yorkshire to take on Sheffield Sharks II.

Pool B

Last season's champs Solent Kestrels begin their title defence with a trip to Richmond Knights, who started the season 0-1 after a loss in Barking.

Barnet host Oaklands in what could be one of the games of the weekend, Barking entertain Cobham, and last weekend's surprise package London Elite are at home to Greenwich Titans.

Sussex Storm's search for a first win in D1M continues at they welcome CoLA Southwark Pride, and there's an all-London clash between the Stars and Lions.

NBL National Cup

Aside from Thursday's win for the Mohawks, Plymouth vs Exeter on Friday night and Dream Chasers Sheffield against Sheffield Arrows on Saturday, all eyes are on the National Cup on Sunday as the second round plays out.

Holders Solent are already through after their 20-0 against Portsmouth Force, and last year's beaten finalists Manchester Magic are at home in a local derby against Greater Manchester Titans.

There's an exciting clash lined up between Yorkshire Dragons II and D1 outfit Myerscough Basketball Academy, which is one of 19 ties across the day involving top-flight sides.
