Switzerland 75-110 Great Britain: Steutel's men up and running on road to EuroBasket 2029
Great Britain's Men started their FIBA EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifiers campaign with a commanding 110-75 victory over Switzerland.
With a squad combining experienced internationals with an exciting new generation of GB talent, including Boston Celtics' centre Amari Williams and FC Barcelona's Tosan Evbuomwan, GB romped to victory in Fribourg thanks in part to a 60-37 second half performance.
Hitting 49% of their shots, including 56% from 2pt range, the visitors showed their superiority the longer the game wore on behind a game-high 24 points from Joshua Uduje that included 4/7 from long range.
Workmanlike from the off
Before tip, GB guard Quinn Ellis (9pts, 7reb, 7ast) described Switzerland as a 'a very talented team' and it was easy to see why as they made life tough for coach Steutel's men.
Eight first-quarter points from Evbuomwan (21pts) helped GB take the opening frame 25-19, but the hosts refused to let the game slip as they showed their resolve to battle back.
30-21 GB quickly turned into 30-29 following an 8-0 run, then 32-32, but Steutel's new-look unit refused to fold, instead doubling down to take the remainder of the quarter 18-6 to lead by double digits at the break.
Part of that late stretch saw a breakaway dunk from the impressive Evbuomwan, and despite the time and space afforded to the Barcelona man following his steal, he threw the ball down with the minimum of fuss.

GB clamp down after the break
The visitors held their opponents to 35% shooting from 2pt range, forcing eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes, but the second half is where GB really turned the screw.
The hosts doubled their turnover count in the third quarter, with GB racking up to 12 steals in the contest, and that defensive intensity helped set the platform for what became a comfortable win. Finishing the contest with 30 points off turnovers will no doubt have pleased GB's head coach as his side went through the gears with ease.
Veterans Myles Hesson (13pts, 7reb, 4stl) and Carl Wheatle (9pts, 3stl) combined for seven of GB's steals as Hesson's triple with a little over two minutes left in the quarter formed part of a 14-0 run that ballooned the score to 79-51 GB after three.
With time ticking away in the final frame, their lead passed the 30-point mark, and the century came up with 5:06 still remaining in regulation.
A flashy reverse dunk from the impressing Uduje was in sharp contrast to Evbuomwan's throwdown earlier in the contest, providing the exclamation mark on a job well done as GB now head home to Newcastle to entertain Slovakia on Sunday evening.
