New faces impress

Few in pre-season would have had this weekend's matchup between newly promoted Barking Abbey and Milton Keynes Breakers as a battle of the unbeatens.

Still, both teams have looked impressive in the early going and sit at 2-0. That streak will end for one side in East London on Saturday, but regardless of the outcome both teams have shown their top flight credentials and should remain in the playoff mix for some time to come.

Both have built their early successes on offensive might, with MK (74.5PPG) and Barking (73.0PPG) currently #1 and #2 for points per game in the early going.

Expect some fireworks from the pair on Saturday.

Keeping pace at the top

Whilst the unlikely duo above have started strongly, Worcester, London All Stars, Manchester and London Cavaliers have all tasted defeat already this season.

The Mystics (0-2) and London All Stars (0-2) are both winless and go head-to-head in the Capital this weekend, and the Cavs entertain Brent Bulls in their season opener.

Worcester have a chance to make a statement as they host 2-0 defending champs Anglia Ruskin University, but that won't be an easy contest against ARU's Player of the Week Olivia Rangel.

WNBL National Cup

The Round of 16 of the WNBL National Cup is on deck for this weekend, filling up the weekend schedule with a number of mouth-watering ties.

Tees Valley Mohawks vs Sheffield Arrows and Bromsgrove Bears vs Charnwood Riders are the two lone games on Saturday, giving way to plenty of action on Sunday afternoon.

An all-D1 London affair between Barking Abbey and East London Phoenix, the same lineup that contested last season's D2W Playoff Final, could be the pick of ties, but there's plenty on offer elsewhere.

Hemel Storm have the unenviable task of entertaining Anglia Ruskin University, Milton Keynes are at home to 2022/23 finalists Reading Rockets, and last year's runners up, London Cavaliers are at home to Greenwich Phoenix.

There could be an upset as winless D1 Bristol travel to D2 Plymouth Marjon Raiders, and Ipswich look set to get their season underway against Oaklands Wolves after venue issues have plagued their early schedule.
